Pancake Breakfast

The Pancake Breakfasts take place on the last Saturday of each month and always features “The Pancake of the Month.” There is no cost to the attendees associated with  this event. The donation jar is always out, and we take in between $450 to $800 or more monthly. This money is net because all expenses are covered from donations.

We have firefighter volunteers and others that help set up, flip pancakes, clean up and tear down the event.

We usually have between 80 and 130 people or more attend each month depending on the weather.

The Mayoral Campaign

Our Sitting Mayor
March 27th

SPRUCE UP YOUR CANDIDATE
THE SECOND WALKER MAYORAL ELECTION

It’s time to get your critter gussied up!  Yes, electioneering is right around the corner.  The second Mayoral Election will kick off at the March 27th pancake breakfast.  Get that appointment at the groomer now!  Make sure your candidate looks MAH-VELOUS for that all important election photo.

Will an incumbent prevail?  Will there be a “dark horse” candidate this year?  Will a bunny “hop” to the desired finish?  Will an “old timer” finally get into office?  You can count on one thing - it will be an exciting Walker campaign trail.  Will anyone out do Ellie Mae’s top notch campaigning of 2009?

This is the second year that the Walker Community will vote for its Mayor.  Remember the qualifications!  Our “Mayor” has to reside full-time or part-time in Walker.  Our “Mayor” must have a Walker human as a pet.  Our “Mayor” can be two footed, four footed or no footed!  Our “Mayor” can be finned, feathered, scaled or haired.  Our “Mayor” will be a cherished feline, canine, bird, rabbit, snake or other cherished home critter of the Walker area.

The will be a “nomination” form to fill out (available at the pancake breakfasts or on the web), an entry fee of $5.00 (non-refundable) and a recent photo will be required.  All candidates’ photos will be posted on the “voting board” at every breakfast and some functions (TBD).

All votes will be $1.00 each; and in the good old Chicago tradition, you can vote for the Mayor early and often (like at every pancake breakfast).

You will be able to meet the candidates at all the pancake breakfasts and at the annual meeting (those who decide to hit the campaign trail).  The photo board will be on display at all these functions, so you can select your candidate that way.

The voting will close at the Ice Cream Social on August 8th at 2:30pm.  The result of the election will be at 3:00pm the same day.  The Mayor will receive a Mayoral Hat and key to Walker.  The Mayor will have office responsibilities for one year.

Start sprucing up your candidate.  Electioneering can be long and hard, so make sure your contender is well fed and rested for the challenge of the campaign trail.
