Walker Fire Auxiliary Meeting Minutes

March 13th, 2010         10:15 am

Co Chairs presiding:

Marsha Smades, Jeffrey Morhous

Secretary’s report for the January 9th meeting was read and accepted.

Victoria did a recap of the Arts & Crafts show appeal.

After a December meeting where we looked for other locations, Victoria reviewed the PDP rules. She went to the Board of Supervisors and they said go to the PDP. She filled out an application which was refused. Then, went to a 2nd Board of appeal and it was refused. So, March 1st Tim McFarlan and members of the WFA appealed to the Board of Supervisors. Attorney Dave Hunt rebutted. After the meeting Victoria was under the impression that they were going to reconsider, but they turned us down, officially instead.

Side note – Howard asked Jill for any info we had on last year’s show and Jill turned it over to Victoria. Victoria gave Howard what we had from his original files.

Also, it was noted that we had polled 100% of the people with businesses on the square and 80% said they were in favor of us having another show. However, Mr. Thurmond had polled the chamber of commerce (who mostly represented the outlying area) and he said it was 50%.

Review of the 2011 Calendar – Peggy was not at this meeting.

Reviewed that we still need photos to be submitted.

Send photos to Jeffrey.

Carol Tocker – Dumpster program

At 80 people – we are in the ‘Black’.

Need someone to review the security video tapes every week or so. Will ask around to see who currently has access to the video system.

Some letters with contracts and combinations that Carol mailed were never received. So we need to review the tapes.

Carol thanked Kristi McFarlan for all of her help in maintaining the program.

Victoria will provide a sign for the trash table at the Pancake Breakfasts.

Tim states that, as a business, we are required to have an annual meeting.

Review of the 2010 Walker Mayoral Race.

Victoria has the entry forms ready to go.

Will set up at a booth at the Pancake Breakfasts.

Cancer Walk – Jay and CJ Sumner have moved out of Walker so we don’t know if it can happen. If not, we’ll take it off the April calendar of events.

Annual Meeting Pot Luck – we still have no chairperson.

Last year there was no one.

Tim says he can add a blurb to the Walker Newsletter.

June Yard Sale – we could do a bring, sell at booth, haul away, but how to make any money for Walker?? Kristi will send out a ‘feeler’ email.

Arts & Crafts – some discussion about a local Walker show.

Victoria says ‘Remember that the people of Walker they used to support Walker days might support an A & C. It would not be a big money maker - $50 per booth??

Jean could add a blurb to the Radio Calendar of Events.

July – how about a BBQ? Saturday July 3rd Noon until three.

Sell dogs, burgers, chips. We’ll supply condiments. Beans to be donated?

If that Saturday is a Fire Training day it is usually over by 10 or 11.

Tim suggests we rent a Dunk Tank for revenue. Mc Farlans will handle that.
